It's GameDay!

No East coast bias this week -- the eyes of the nation are on us!

Keegan Herring is the man!

For those who missed the feature on last week's GameDay, this puts this week's game into its proper perspective. In the world of college football, it means everything; in the real world, it means nothing.

The biggest game in 10 years

Tonight's game is the biggest ASU has played in since the 1997 season, which saw huge home games versus an unbeaten Washington State (win) and a good-but-not-great au (loss).

As I have posted elsewhere, the WSU game of '97 is the loudest I have ever heard Sun Devil Stadium, especially when Fright Night sacked Ryan Leaf.

Mixed day for Sun Devil / Raider fans

Al Davis sent mixed signals to Sun Devil nation yesterday. First, he drafted JaMarcus Russell and traded for Josh McCown, effectively ending Andrew Walter's career in Oakland. (Of course, one could argue that this will be best for Andrew in the long run, since he was going to get killed behind that porous line in Oakland.)

However, the silver-and-black then drafted Zack Miller in round two. Zack should be able to catch some of those 60 yard passes that Russell will be throwing from his knees this season.

While on the subject of the draft, it was a rough day for the Pac-10, with Cal's Marshawn Lynch the only player selected in Round One . For now we'll assume it's an aberration.

Lame poll, but we need to support Sparky nontheless

CBS SportsLine is running a poll to determine the "Most Dominant College Mascot on Earth".

Obviously I'm not a big fan of these types of thing, but it's our obligation to promote ASU whenever possible, so go ahead and vote for Sparky, especially to avoid the embarrassment of losing to Southern Utah.

Of course, Sparky's greatest ever appearance in pop culture was in Nissan's commercial that ran during last year's lead-up to the Heisman presentation.

When Reggie White respects you, it means something

Eric Allen's presence on YouTube is, thankfully, more watchable than Mike Haynes'. A short preview for a video entitled Eric Allen: Cornerback, the clip includes some great testimonials. Having Don Shula call you "one of the finest cornerbacks to ever play the game" is pretty special.

Even the greats make mistakes

Mike Haynes should have known better. You have to make it to around the 4:31 mark to see his contribution to this atrocity!

The other ASU

"Solid as rock and proud as a peacock, Appalachian State is HOT! HOT! HOT!"

I officially drop all my complaints about Arizona State marketing. We're not doing so bad.

This should kill the "Danny White for Head Coach" talk forever

Try to make it through the whole thing -- I dare you! DW's grand appearance is at the 0:44 mark.
